Truman Highway Logo

Â
We overhauled the Truman Highway logo when they signed with SSF since the logo they have been using is a standard font and they should have their very own logo that represents the band in terms of sound and who they are. We think we captured it well.

Incinerate The Fallen Logo

When Moses said that his band In The Flesh was changing their name, I waited in anticipation  for two reasons; 1). It is going to be a metal name, and; 2). I will be designing the new logo. The moment he said his band's new name, Incinerate The Fallen, I saw the logo in my mind. Putting the metaphorical pencil to paper, this is the finished product.

New jUNT Logo

Â
Just saw jUNT play with Force Fed Lies recently and they were awesome, FFL and jUNT had a great time playing and look forward to future shows together. When I got back to Boston, the moment I had some time, I set to work on designing jUNT a new logo, and here it is.

Brian of Force Fed Lies - TRX Cymbals Ad

We just finished up a shoot with Brian while Force Fed Lies was rehearsing. The building offers a bunch of neat locations with interesting textures. This is down the stair well right outside of the rehearsal space.
The necessary text and data were added, went with a simple and bold vertical black cut to define type, typeset to the edge of the transition from the black into the texture.

Moses of In The Flesh - Spector Ad
Moses of In The Flesh has been endorsed by Spector and as one of the first design projects to the newly signed band was to complete the Spector ad! I shot the photo at a show in Boston and you can see him rocking label mate's Force Fed Lie's shirt (which we designed too!)

Far From There Logo Dev
Brandon from FFT came to me with an idea for the new band logo and I had a hand in tweaking the design a bit more to suit them. I started by changing the border around the FFT initials to a round corner border and also centered it by eye as the initials align a bit off if snapping to grid. Next, it gave me the idea for a wearing-out stamp feel, which is the texture you see.

The Chance Shirt
One day I was thinking about the economy and absolutely f'ed it is these days. I mean, this country bails out people who made horrible decisions just to likely do it all over again.....awesome. Instead of getting further angry/annoyed/depressed over the economy, I decided to show it in design and really say out loud how we the people feel during these tough times. Well, Carlos over at the Hanprint store dug the design so much, we decided it to launch it as a shirt, you can pick one up over at http://www.handprintstore.com/category/kenkato

The design was a reflection of my thoughts to our economy and current times, that said, since the country is taking a gamble on our lives, what better environment to base it off of than a popular board game we have all played!

Shotgun Mawage Shirt
Its yet another tasteless installment of the Gameover shirt (http://www.handprintstore.com/category/kenkato) which is a line of shirts developed by SSF for exclusive distribution through the Handprint store. The next idea has been done before but not with as much flair....the bathroom iconography is understood the world over, so what better image to base shotgun wedding theme on? Clearly the figures have been modified as to resemble the bride and groom with a X-ray see through feel. The braille at the bottom reads 'Hitched'.

The Game Over Shirt
So one day I was messing around in PS and AI and thought of fond memories of the 8 and 16 bit video game days and decided to incorporate it in a design project. Well, no appropriate moment came up so it evolved into what is now my gameover line of shirts which are available over at the Hanprint store (http://www.handprintstore.com/category/kenkato). It all started with the thought of what makes most people skip a heartbeat.....oh i know, unexpected pregnancy. Yes I am totally aware that it is tasteless but jokes are not intended to make you feel comfortable either. That said, the first design in the Gameover line and what started it all.
Â

Â
I even went into some silly details such as score and lives count like an old video game. Speaking of the old school, the score does convert to a message, I'll give you a clue, you ever had to spell things out with a calculator?

FFL Stickers
We have designed various stickers for FFL, the first one is from the logo design. The design is a simple port of the logo with the original gradients seen and expected to have some loss when printed via silk screen to vinyl media. This is another of the logo variants with a grunge dot above the letter I.
Â

Â
The next two are derived from the collateral imagery of the CD layout. The first is the monochrome flag with the inside tray font used for the band name across the from. The CD color scheme is reinforced in these stickers as well.
Â

Â
The next sticker is essentially the back tray of the CD as a sticker. The stage pass for the tour was derived from this sticker with a few changes.

FFL Logo Design
Force Fed Lies came back to us after the CD layout for logo development and after many versions later, we have completed a set of logos for various applications. The most visible applications are web, sticker and shirt use. The bottom one is seen in both the sticker as well as web and is the 'Go To' logo with the cleanest lines and minimal grunge where else the one immediately above it is used on the FFL Vertical shirt. The top two have been used in web banners and logos for other site use.

FFL Vertical Logo Shirt
When Force Fed Lies came back to have a logo developed by us, one of the first applications in print was on a shirt. Along with the logo, we took lyrics from the song 'Entropy' which can be heard on FFL's EP 'A Sad Sad State' The lyric is a section from the chorus of the song that is gang vocals, which reinforced in a live show by audience participation. After seeing that, figured it would translate well to a shirt. The cuss word from the lyric was omitted from the shirt as to be able to be displayed in retailers without issue but the graphic representation certainly does not lose the feel despite the change.
Â

Â
The design was a success and was repeated in other shirt colors where blue happens to be the most popular of the three colors offered.
Â

Â
The design was printed offset front to give the shirt a unique look with simple use of logo and typography.

FFL 'Monkey' Shirt
This design is a port of various collateral images from the CD layout and is the first piece of clothing designed from the collateral images for Force Fed Lies. The band name across the top is the same font found on the CD and the flag background as well as the monkeys is a revisit of the CD back tray, re-oriented for the shirt design and covered to monochrome. The monochrome was inverted for print to a black shirt in the production version.

FFL 'We Stood With You In The Fight' Shirt
The front of the shirt has the same colors found in FFL's CD design as well as website, which is a nice continuity to see. The front graphic is a tale on Japanese block style stamps with a distinctly western twist. In order to maintain readability, the FFL layout colors were used appropriately to create a break in the otherwise continuous block style.

Â
Do to printing restrictions in the garment industry, the design was overhauled and converted to vector with simple punch out of black instead of the gradients of black in the original version in order to accommodative print restrictions.

Â
The concept for the back of the shirt was drawn from lyrics within the song 'Average Jo' off of FFL's EP 'A Sad Sad State'. The lyrics are 'We Stood With You In The Fight', the iconography in the back of the typography of the graphic is to associate an image with those parts of the words. The shamrock behind the first line is to encompass 'We' as in the city of Boston's denizens and to add that local flavor. The heart behind 'You' is a nod to video game culture and the brass knuckles silhouette has obvious implications to the typography in front of it.

FFL A Sad Sad State CD Layout
This project was done between Ken K. and A Wolanin for Force Fed Lies' debut EP. The concept is based on the record title and the elements that play in between are an interesting story. Lets start with the cover;

The cover is a play on Rock, Paper Scissors with the pair of scissors, dollar bill, and diamond as iconography as a statement of our country. The color scheme of orange and black will be used through out the CD layout as well as collateral artwork. The flag was left intentionally monochrome in the back ground, as a black and white flag is a sign of hard economic times or during times of duress in our country historically speaking. Contrary top popular belief, it is not a disrespect or disgrace to the flag or country.
The back of the case depicts a classic image of three monkeys as hear nothing, see nothing, and say nothing. The monochrome flag is continued to be used in the back ground but this time with bold black stripes as it does not detract from the forward image as well as create rows to place typography for song titles and order. The black and orange theme is carried out from front, back, and to spine which also shows the band name using the color scheme for the disc with a distinct red high light for contrast.
Â

The inside tray and CD layout came from an idea form the then vocalist Joe wanting to see city scape as the band is coming out of Boston. The shot of a telephone pole was isolated and it's wires exaggerated across the CD tray over to the inside insert to give the graphic a feel of continuity, just like the outside has. The black and orange colors are continued with the tray spine forward cut out has typography inspired by the constitution that reads 'We The People' to reflect the album title and overall concept of the record again.

The CD graphic was a port over from the CD tray graphic as  monochrome print, with the idea that when the CD is listed out of the case the image and feel remain the same experiance.
