There’s a sense in any music scene that their music is at odds with every other scene in the area. Force Fed Lies stands to knock that on its ass. Drawing from old school punk, hardcore, and metal influences, they bring a unique blend of music to the stage, making them often the “most punk band at a metal show” or the “most metal band at a hardcore show”. At their roots though, their punk sensibilities of taking a stand against what’s going wrong around then, and working hard and doing everything for themselves shine through their music, and their history.
It’s fitting, then, that Force Fed Lies started in 2007 when three guys decided they’d had enough of the bullshit and walked away from another band.
Brain Carson (drummer), Nate Morrison (guitarist), and Joe M (bassist) were in a band called Jo and the Motherfuckers. Jo, most often recalled as an *expletive deleted* tyrannical, egomaniacal *expletive deleted*, decided to fire Nate without asking the rest of the band. Brian, finally at the end of his rope with dealing with Jo, convinced Joe M to leave as well, and form a new group with Nate and himself.
Not willing to let this bullshit stand, the three formed Force Fed Lies, and wrote one of their first songs about the whole ordeal. You can hear the tale from their point of view in the track “Average Jo”, off of their First EP, “A Sad, Sad State”.
Knowing they needed to fill out their ranks and their sound, they consulted the everyman’s best resource for finding random dudes to be in your band: Craigslist. This search yielded Danny Ronin on guitar, and now armed with two guitarists, a drummer, and Joe holding down bass and vocals, they started to form their sound. As time went on, and as most bands experience, the line-up changed. Nate stepped away to pursue other things, opening a spot for Ken Kato. Joe M would eventually step away to pursue his graduate studies, opening the way for Perkins to join on vocal. The most recent addition is Rob MacLeod, who stepped in to the bass spot with over a decade of experience under his belt.
This, then, is the current line-up of Force Fed, with Brian, Danny, Ken, Perkins and Rob carrying on the tradition of the bands style and attitude. As with any band, each addition and subtraction in the line-up nudges the band in a new direction, but they keep close to their roots. This is a band that isn’t going to take shit. They have something to say, and come hell or high water, changing band members or life throwing a wrench in the works, they’re going to pick themselves right back up and keep doing what they do best: play fucking music.
